Michael Cuffe, MD

Michael Cuffe, MD, was appointed vice president for medical affairs of the Duke University Health System in 2005. Prior to this appointment Dr. Cuffe served as vice chair of medical affairs for the Department of Medicine as well as the chief safety officer in the Duke Clinical Research Institute.

In his position as vice president for medical affairs, Dr. Cuffe coordinates activities of physician groups associated with the Duke University Health System as well as improve physician system alignment, specifically focusing on physician business practices. He also works to improve safety issues and is helping to introduce an ambulatory medical record that will aid physicians and patients alike.

Dr. Cuffe received his MD at Duke University in 1991 and also completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology at Duke. His medical interests include general cardiology, chronic heart failure and ischemic heart disease, while his research interests consist of medical safety, clinical trial reporting, hospitalization due to heart failure, and the systems of medical care.
